Removing A Kwikset Door Lock

Now you are ready to being removing the external side of the door knob or the opposing side from the one you ve already worked on. Remove the smarkey tool. Remove the doorknob from the door by either engaging the hidden latch near the base of the doorknob or by unscrewing it. Prop open the door to stabilize it during deadbolt removal. Ensure your door cannot close on its own or that you have another way to enter you home. Remove the current key.

If there is no cover and the mounting screws are visible proceed to step 2. Now it is time to remove the internal screws and take off the remaining pieces. Once the knob is removed you ll have to use a flathead screwdriver or other object to pry the faceplate from the door. Loosen and remove the two mounting screws that secure the interior lock to the mounting plate using the appropriate type of screwdriver. Remove the two screws on the inside door knob faceplate using a phillips head screwdriver. To remove a kwikset door knob use a paperclip to press the locking pin that holds the knob and the stem together and pull the knob out.

Then pry off the lever and inside cover to access the mounting screws. To remove the entire door knob assembly remove the knob s inside faceplate pull out both sides of the knob and take out the latch plate. Remove the doorknob and faceplate from your side of the door. Pry off the inside deadbolt cover using a small flat blade screwdriver. You may feel the tool click inside the lock. If you have ever came to a locks that had no screws no set screw and no de. Remove the pin that holds the thumb lever in place with an appropriately sized allen wrench.
