While this has been done before i thought i d post my solution. Raspberry pi garage door opener. Learning programming made easy. This was my first hardware project and instructable ever and i m sure.

So you basically remove the battery on the remote and connect the on the battery compartment on the remote to the 3v on the pi. Run sudo shutdown and then unplug the pi. Connect 2 wires from each garage door opener switch contacts to the relay. My garage door remote uses the cr2032 battery which is 3 3v and coincidentally the raspberry pi also has a 3v terminal which is right next to the 5v plug. Test of my garage door opener project with apple home. The relay should be wired in the normally open position so that when activated the circuit will close and the garage door will open close.

Then wire pin 6 gnd to the gnd on the relay. Wire pin 2 5v on the pi to the vcc pin on the relay. Here is what my pi looks like all connected up. Then wire the relay to the garage door opener.
